Synthesis Machines

Oscillator

General information

The Oscillator Machine exposes the same set of oscillator algorithms as the Synthesizer, but stripped of every downstream stage: there is no Filter, no Drive, no DCA, no envelopes. The oscillator output is sent straight to the Mixer at the voice's Volume level.

Use this Machine when you want a clean, raw oscillator — for example to feed an external Eurorack filter through one of the CV outputs, to use the module as a paraphonic pitch source, or simply to save CPU when the full Synthesizer chain is overkill.

Tip: because the Oscillator has no built-in envelope, the voice will sound for as long as the gate is held. Use one of the Modulators (e.g. an ADSR or a Shape sequencer) on the Volume parameter to shape the amplitude over time, or hand off to an external VCA.

Tab structure

The Oscillator Machine has fewer tabs than the Synthesizer:

  • Tab 1 — OSC: Model, Frequency, Transpose, Volume (always present)
  • Tab 2+ — Model-specific: shape and parameter pages of the active model. The label and number of these tabs change with the selected model.

There is no FILTER tab, no AMP tab, and no FLT ENV / AMP ENV tabs.

OSC tab

The OSC tab is identical to the Synthesizer's first oscillator page.

When the Model is Wavetable, a "File browser" entry appears in the long-press (burger) menu of the OSC tab — use it to load wavetables from the SD card.

Models

The Oscillator shares its model list with the Synthesizer — see the Synthesizer page for the full description of each model and its parameters.

Because there is no Drive, no Filter and no Amp envelope on the Oscillator Machine, sounds are sharper and louder than the equivalent patch on the Synthesizer at the same Volume — the signal isn't shaped or attenuated by the downstream chain.
